Traffic Awareness Campaign

India ranks first in world and Tamil Nadu stands first in India and Chennai tops the list in death due to road accidents. To change this scenario and to make our roads safer by imbibing road sense among the public,we initiated our first Traffic Awareness Camp (TAC) in 2013 at the T.Nagar signal, Chennai, where our volunteers held awareness placards, voiced for reminding commuters to wear helmets, seatbelts and follow traffic rules. Day by day our awareness started to have an impact to the public where many from the common public has joined hands with us during the camps and continue to contribute to the awareness. Currently we have been doing TAC across major locations of Chennai, like T.Nagar, Velachery, Thiruvanmiyur, Kodambakkam, Anna Nagar, OMR etc summing up to 40 campaigns per month involving more than 450+ volunteers per month.

The objective of TAC is to:

● Bring awareness on the importance of stop lines and abiding traffic signals.

● Bring awareness to wear a helmet and seat belt.

● Ensure that the pedestrians are aware of the road rules and encourage them to use sidewalks, overhead road crossing, zebra crossing, etc.

● Bring awareness on the risks of driving with distractions (Mobile phones, Music players, etc.)

● Campaign against drunk driving and awareness on associated risks. TAC activities include:

● Guiding vehicles to stop before signal stop-line.

● Mimes and short street plays on road safety.

● One-to-one conversations with people in the signals about the importance of road safety gears.

● Distributing pamphlets with road safety instructions.

● Regulating pedestrians to road crossing and educating them about following the road rules.

● Affixing anti-glare stickers onto the headlights.

● Meeting regularly with government officials to create a safe traffic environment.

Now with more than 3500 active volunteers and 36 campaigns happening every month across Tamil Nadu, we work with the aim of transforming our country into an Accident-Free Nation.
